Floral Photography

At our last meeting Cliff Smith shared some of his photography expertise with us. Here are a few of his suggestions that you could use to take some pictures for the photo contest.

• When taking a vertical picture turn the camera vertical for them
• Take flower shots at their level rather than from above
• The best lighting is early morning, evening or when it is overcast
• Look at the background of your shot and remove any unwanted objects

Another idea for your great flower photos is to mount them on card stock and send them as cards. I have seen a gorgeous one of an up close shot of the “bells” of a lily of the valley plant with the green leaves as a background. Bring a smile to someone special - Everyone loves getting a hand written card in the mail these days.

• “AT THE MARKET” (A scene from a Farmers’ Market).
• “I’M GREEN WITH ENVY” (a monochromatic shot)
• “I LOVE IT WHEN THE WIND BLOWS (wind affecting nature)
• “ROOM TO LET” (bird house/s)
• “FRUIT OF THE VINE (anything that grew or is growing on a vine)
• “GOOD MORNING SUN (morning shot)
• "OH, IT’S COLD OUT HERE (winter scene)
• “STORMY WEATHER” (shot taken in a storm)
• “I SHOULD HAVE HAD A V-8 (a vegetable garden)
• “A GARDEN SHED” (with a touch of nature)

You must be a member and your entry needs to be submitted by September 28th. If you would like more details they will be available at the meetings just ask!
